I blew my personal computer and before I could build a new one I needed a temporary machine which could perform some of my routine tasks like browsing, social network, word processing, programming, gaming, videos, music & ocassional heavy computation. Though I would be needing a full fledged workstation for my computational activity, my other tasks could be pulled off by a barebone computer. Since, a x86 based barebone computer wouldn’t add value when I would definitely be needing a workstation I decided to fill-in my personal computing needs temporarily with an ARM based minimalist computer.

How I run LLMs locally

A HN user asked me0 how I run LLMs locally with some specific questions, I’m documenting it here for everyone. Before I begin I would like to credit the thousands or millions of unknown artists, coders and writers upon whose work the Large Language Models(LLMs) are trained, often without due credit or compensation. Get Started r/LocalLLaMA subreddit1 & Ollama blog2 are great places to get started with running LLMs locally.

Benchmarks from M2 Pro to M4 Pro

Long story short, I picked up a new MacBook Pro this week. I got the M4 Pro version with the higher core count and 1TB of internal storage. It's the exact same model in the lineup as the M2 Pro I've been using for the last
