Final Fantasy

from Applied Cartography [alt+shift+b] in technology

The game certainly shows its age, I can tell you that much. (I played Dawn of Souls, which was the slightly easier remake, and even then it was a bit of a slog.) It’s short, though, and it’s I think worth playing for its place in the canon.

The Sting

The Sting belongs in the pantheon of films I'm deeply embarrassed to have not watched earlier. Not just because it's a great film — and it is — but because it is so incredibly my shit that I feel retroactively spurned for not having watched it sooner.

Everybody Wants Some!!

The single most pleasurable movie of all time is Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven, and it achieves that status in order to try to convey what makes filmmaking uniquely magical: a sense of shared enchantment between the audience and the director, and the ecstasy of the latter pulling a heist on the former -- not (just) trickery, but the successful creation of an ornate and difficult craft. Best of Enemies

Last year, I watched The War Room, the documentary following Bill Clinton's first campaign — a film I am remiss for having never written about, because it was captivating, satisfying, and illuminating. AI Coworkers Could Be Great, But Only If They Get Serious

On Sunday morning, a lot of us woke up to Grok Bot, the always-on AI assistant, decidedly off. “100% used” read my quota meter. It’d been 45% late the night before. It was an error, but of the Freudian slip sort, and that’s a problem if tools like this are to be taken seriously.
